Gillian Rae-Walker
Soprano
The Singer
Gillian Rae-Walker is a lyric soprano with a wide vocal range and excellent coloratura, so that roles such as Konstanze, Maria Stuarda, Miss Wordsworth  and Cleopatra suit her equally well. At present she works in Germany and the UK as a concert and opera singer. Her mother tongue is English, but she also speaks fluent German,  excellent French and some Italian.

Career
Gillian Rae-Walker’s career began with the Ludwigsburg International Festival production of Handel’s Semele, directed by Marco Arturo Marelli and broadcast on TV. Since then she has divided her time between opera productions and concerts, singing with Opera East, Belcanto Opera, St. Leonard’s Opera, Opera for All, Regency Opera, the Pocket Opera Company and Petworth Festival in such roles as Antonia, First Lady, High Priestess, Queen of the Night, Musetta   and Gilda. Concert performances include a series of opera and song recitals in London including trio recitals with Peter Fisher, violin as well as many oratorios throughout the UK and Germany, such as Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Handel’s Judas Maccabeus,  Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, Haydn’s Creation, Orff’s Carmina Burana  and Verdi’s  Requiem at venues as diverse as Exeter Cathedral, the Huddersfield Town Hall, the Music Hall, Aberdeen and St. Paul’s Knightsbridge, London. 

Gillian is a regular guest artist with the Chamber Ensemble of London performing at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London

Training
Born in Edinburgh, Gillian studied music, German and French at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, before training full-time at the Stuttgart Conservatory (voice and piano) and Stuttgart Opera School. She undertook further operatic training at Morley and Abbey Opera and at various masterclasses including Lucerne and Glyndebourne, working with stage directors and repetiteurs such as Jonathon Hindon, Stephen Medcalf, Tom Hawkes, Richard Gregson , John Abulafia,  Graham Clark, Paul Hamburger and Malcolm Martineau. 

Past singing teachers include Vera Rozsa, Ryland Davies and Esther Salaman and she has worked regularly with  a number of outstanding coaches, such as Mark Packwood (Royal Opera House), David Roblou, Alastair Dawes (Royal Opera House), Gordon Stewart, Robert Dean,  Jane Robinson and Jason Weaver (Oldenburg). Gillian presently works with the international voice teacher Neil Semer (New York).
